Privacy Policy
Learn Your Words is a private, local-first dictionary app. This policy explains how the current version of Learn Your Words handles information.
Information Learn Your Words collects
Learn Your Words does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information or dictionary content. It does not require an account and does not use advertising, analytics, tracking, or a remote service to store your dictionary.
Data stored on your device
The words, translations, categories, and app preferences you create are stored locally on your device. Learn Your Words cannot access this information remotely.
Exporting and importing
When you choose to export a backup or printable dictionary, Learn Your Words creates a file on your device and opens the operating system's share sheet. You choose whether and where to share or save that file. The privacy practices of the service or app you choose then apply.
When you choose to import a backup, Learn Your Words reads the file you selected and stores its contents only on your device.
Downloading word presets
When you open Import presets, Learn Your Words requests a catalogue from our public website, hosted by GitHub Pages. When you choose a list, it downloads that list from the same site. Your words, translations, categories, and review progress are not sent with these requests. The hosting provider may receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, and its privacy practices apply. Imported words remain on your device.
Data retention and deletion
Your dictionary remains on your device until you delete entries, replace the dictionary through an import, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling Learn Your Words may delete its local data. Export a backup before uninstalling if you want to keep it.
Children's privacy
Learn Your Words does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. It does not upload your dictionary content; optional preset downloads use the connection described above.
Changes to this policy
If the data practices of Learn Your Words change, this policy and the app-store privacy disclosures will be updated before or with the relevant app release.
